A key finding was that the personal, family and security needs of ANMs deeply impact their availability on the ground, and hence their productivity and efficiency. Thus, efforts to encourage ANMs to reside in their work area should aim to enhance their ease of staying as well as enforcing accountability.<br><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"134\" src=\"https:\/\/arth.in\/new-arth-website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/anm-large.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-912\" style=\"width:259px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The study put forth the following recommendations to encourage ANMs to reside within their work areas :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shift administrative control over and responsibility of the ANMs to the local panchayats<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Form complaint committees at district level for women health workers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implement human resource policy guidelines for ANMs (which includes the issues of recruitment and posting, matching transfers with changing needs, meeting personal needs, location of accommodation and amenities).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage non-governmental organizations to support ANMs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The study found that the ANM takes an &#8220;economic&#8221; decision about whether or not to reside within her work area. This decision is taken after weighing the &#8220;ease of staying&#8221; and the &#8220;inconvenience of not staying&#8221; in the area.
