Internships and Volunteering

ARTH  is a public health organization with 60 persons working out of one office, 4 clinics and multiple field locations. Our staff includes doctors, nurses, social workers, researchers, trainers, field workers, office administrators and more. Within this structure, ARTH is able to provide limited volunteer and internship opportunities for young people to learn while supporting and contributing to the organization’s mission and work. Internships are organized around the skills and background the participant has to offer as well as the needs of ARTH’s work at the time the participant is applying. They may be offered in a variety of areas of health (sexual & reproductive health, maternal, neonatal and child health, child nutrition, primary health care, etc.), research, training, field level interventions and policy advocacy.

Applicants

Applicants would have a background or prior knowledge/experience in public health, global health, medical sciences, health policy or specific areas within these fields. They ideally sould have a graduate degree in these or related fields, however we do acknowledge, that there are passionate and qualified undergraduates with interest in these areas. Prior exposure to health issues during the course of studying or working would be an advantage. Applicants with a background in bio-medicine, medicine, nursing, public health and related fields are encouraged to apply. They should be interested in working on issues related to primary health care, be open to working in an environment in which English is not the primary language, be willing to learn another language, be flexible, self motivated and remain open to working in both rural and urban environments.

Locale

ARTH provides a friendly and stimulating environment in which volunteers/ interns would be able to sharpen their understanding of public health issues and the development sector as well as enjoy the freedom to explore their own strengths. For interns volunteering for more than 6 months, visits can be arranged to other organizations/institutions to enable exposure to work being done by others on health and social development. Udaipur provides ample opportunity to unwind and enjoy the beauty of the old city on the banks of the lakes as well as enjoying outdoor walks, bicycle rides and treks in the surrounding Aravali hills.

Duration

A few interns and volunteers can be accommodated each year for a minimum period of 6 weeks to a maximum of 52 weeks. Applications should be submitted a minimum of six months in advance. We will endeavour to respond to applications as soon as possible, however it may take up to 10 days for applicants to receive a reply.

Logistics

Accommodation with meals can be arranged for an intern. Typical living arrangements would either involve stay with a family in the city, or bachelor accommodation at a rural campus of the organization.
