Celebrating Yoga Week with older persons, 17th – 22nd June, 2024

Physical activity plays an important role in maintaining both our physical and mental health. In the case of older persons, physical activity can help maintain their strength and mobility as they age. Therefore, on the occasion of International Yoga Day (21st June, 2024) ARTH conducted Yoga Week with older persons in select villages of southern Rajasthan, under its Prabal Yatra programme.

The aim of Yoga Week was to encourage older persons to add yoga and exercise to their daily routine. On each day of the week, our field team visited villages to conduct 1 hour sessions, involving older men and women. Each such session included demonstration and practice of a set of easy-to-perform yogasanas in the presence of a few invited guests including panchayat representatives and government officials. Our hope is that older persons adopt yoga into their daily routine, which will help maintain their mobility and good health.
